Resilient Infrastructure for Hawaii Aquaculture

The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA) operates a critical aquaculture pumping facility in Kailua Kona that supports 60% of the world’s shrimp supply. The facility pumps 30 million gallons of seawater every day and cannot afford even a short blackout. To ensure NELHA’s facility maintains its operations, Coast Energy operates a resilient microgrid powered by a solar array, batteries, and diesel generators. The microgrid system generates and stores renewable energy on-site, reducing NELHA’s daily energy costs and providing secure backup power for the facility to avoid disruption.
